Welcome to The Founders Academy Public Charter School now in its fourth year! At Founders, we strive to uphold the school's mission of character-building, American History, leadership skills, and preserving liberty. The school's themes were established by the school's founders, entrusted to school administrators, and carried out by teachers into each classroom.
From the beginning of every school day to its end, Founders' teachers educate students and develop ways to expound on the school's mission. This charge starts each morning with "Round Table."
Round Table takes place during "A Period." It is a time for teachers and students to facilitate discussions on the themes of our school, community and country. The idea is to mimic the family dinner table conversations (hence the name Round Table) to share, inform, brainstorm, collaborate and question. President Ronald Reagan referenced this style of discussion in his Farewell Address when he said, "All great change in America begins at the dinner table." The concept of Round Table is so central to the school's existence that it is listed first as part of "The Founding Fathers' Character and Leadership Curriculum" and is this year's "theme of the year."
To highlight Round Table as central to the curriculum, each month of the academic calendar has a focus as well as objectives. Each Round Table will adopt a project at the school and cover important topics based on grade level at Founders. The syllabi for Round Table are posted on the school's web site. The monthly themes are as follows:
September - School Functions and Purposes
October - Founders Codes and Theme of Citizenship
November - Veterans and Thanksgiving
December - Celebrate
January - Developing Self-Regulation
February - Presidential History and Character
March - Immigrants and Entrepreneurship
April - Defining Liberty and Understanding the Gifts of and Threats to Our Freedom
May - Self-Evaluation, Dreaming and Setting Goals
It is an exciting time at Founders as we continue to grow and offer students informative, fun, and challenging classes. My hope is that the school's mission and themes clearly ring in our hallways and classrooms. As for me, it continues to be a privilege serving the students and faculty at Founders. Have a great year!
