The Founders' Spelling Bee

The Founders Academy hosted its first Spelling Bee on Thursday night, March 3rd.  13 students competed in two divisions.  There were 3 6th grade students, and 10 students in the 7th/8th/9th grade division.  The students attempted more than 150 words, spelling more than 80% correctly.

Rania B. placed first in the 6th grade division, with Catherine R. coming in 2nd.  Rania was awarded the $20 first place prize, and Catherine was awarded $10 for second place. In the varsity competition, 7th grader Darby H. placed 1st, and 8th grader Garrett O. placed 2nd.  Garrett made a slight error spelling "authenticate," and Darby responded by spelling that word correctly and following with the correct spelling of "exaggeration" for the championship.  Darby was awarded the $40 first prize, and Garrett received the $10 second place prize.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Darby's performance was impressive. The next academic competition will be the Geography Bee on April 21st.  Registration is currently open.
