Founders Academy Visits Washington, D.C.
Over April break, 36 high school students from The Founders Academy participated in a memorable and impactful trip to Washington, D.C.—an experience that combined emotional reflection, civic engagement, and historical exploration.
One of the most solemn and meaningful experiences of the trip was the group’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery, where they were granted the extraordinary privilege of participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This monument honors unidentified service members who gave their lives in defense of the United States, representing the countless men and women lost in major conflicts dating back to World War I.
Since 1937, the Tomb has been guarded without interruption—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Visitors from around the world come to witness the Changing of the Guard, a ceremony known for its precision, dignity, and symbolism. Seniors Sam Gamache and Kendall Student had the honor of laying a wreath bearing The Founders Academy’s name at the tomb, paying tribute.
Beyond Arlington, the itinerary was rich with educational opportunities. Students toured the U.S. Capitol building, where they gained insight into the political history of our nations. Visits to iconic memorial and to the White House where we took a group picture!

The group also spent time at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The experience was sobering and impactful, prompting thoughtful conversations among students about human rights, history, and moral responsibility.
Students also saw the Smithsonian Museums of American History and Natural History. From seeing the original Star-Spangled Banner to walking through exhibitions on innovation, civil rights, and the natural world, students engaged with artifacts and stories that connected classroom learning to real-world context.
This trip was not only a chance to explore the nation's capital but also an opportunity for personal growth, historical reflection, and the strengthening of bonds among students and faculty. The Founders Academy is proud of the way its students represented the school. None of this would be possible without Son Tours who led us through DC with ease.
