Founders Academy Robotics Club Wins First Place
On Sunday, December 15, 2024, The Founders Academy Public Charter School’s Robotics Club, The Screaming Eagles, won first place out of 23 teams that competed at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Winter Scrimmage held in Nashua, NH. The Screaming Eagles won in a landslide at the competition winning 5 out of 5 games. The Founders Academy Robotics Club is open to all students in grades 5-12.
“Last year, our robot, IDA, didn’t do much more than drive,” said Ian Panait a senior at The Founders Academy. “This year we kept the drive base which was the part of the robot that allowed it to move around, but we removed all the mechanisms built on top of it to create new ones to solve this year's unique game. We built an arm with a mechanism that can pick up, raise, and deposit pieces in several different locations. Additionally, IDA can pull itself off the ground!”
“This Screaming Eagles team is special because it is 100% student lead,” said Team Advisor and 6th-grade teacher, Paul Dlubac. “Ian and the seniors on this team have demonstrated the school’s mission of leadership to the utmost degree while adhering to FIRSTS “gracious professionalism” at all times. They organize the meeting agendas, assign work to members, plan and budget, and order the parts needed for IDA.”
"This robotics team has grown tremendously over the past few years. I am proud of their success at this competition and look forward to what comes next for them,” said Dean of School, Cassie Hayes.
