Founders Academy Students Attend Young Leadership Program
Six 5th graders from The Founders Academy Public Charter School in Manchester, NH spent two days at the Youth Leadership Conference held at Northeast Delta Dental in Concord, NH on October 8th and 9th, 2024.
International educational consultant John Jay Bonstingl engaged the Founders Academy students in a variety of ways to demonstrate the characteristics of becoming a leader. Fifth-grade Founders students created a list of what qualities they said made a good leader including that a leader should be kind, respect others, and embody the definition of trust.
During the second day of the conference, students focused on mental health awareness and Founders students devised a plan to make posters with mental health information and tips to share with the rest of the school community as well as write and distribute positive affirmation notes around the school.
Dean of School, Cassie Hayes attended the student presentations and was excited to support the students in implementing their plan. "The Founders Academy has a mission to develop the leaders of our future. This conference encourages our 5th graders to exercise those skills and think of ways to give back to our school. I am impressed with their final product and look forward to bringing a mental health awareness day to our school!" Hayes said. "This program is designed to help elementary school students realize their leadership potential which pairs perfectly with The Founders Academy’s mission of developing future leaders."
The Founders Academy is a public charter school for students in grades 5 through 12 that is free and open to all New Hampshire students. The Academy develops leaders who understand and apply the lessons of the past, demonstrate exceptional character and lead by example. The Academy recognizes the importance of balance in the development of the whole person, and respects each student's journey.
Principled leadership is fostered by means of a curriculum of classical studies that includes analyzing the lives of great men and women of history, mining the rich classical ideals of the Western tradition, and tracing the evolution of the precious and costly idea of liberty.
The Founders Academy is currently accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. To learn more about The Founders Academy or to apply for admission, visit www.thefoundersacademy.org.
