Teacher, Science

B.A., Biology, Goucher College

I love teaching here at Founders! I have taught Biology and other sciences for many years, and I love helping students discover the wonders of science.

I remember in 6th grade science class learning about DNA, a part of almost every cell in every living thing, and I learned that it was the "Code for Life"! It made me wonder: How can DNA make something be alive?

I followed my passion to a Biology degree, and then took some graduate level coursework in biochemistry (University of MD at Baltimore, and University of Wisconsin-Madison). I worked in three different research labs as a technician, helping the primary researchers carry out their experiments. The deeper I got into biochemistry, the more I saw that what was really important was not the shapes of the atoms that build us, but the love and respect we give to each other. Beautiful as biochemistry is, it does not answer the deepest questions of the heart.

I stayed home to raise three children, and when they got older, I began helping out in their schools. That led to me becoming a science teacher! I completed my NH teacher certification in Life Science (7-12) at NHTI in Concord.

In my spare time, I love being with my grandchildren. Their energy and zest for life gives me much joy! I also love to read: I have read the Lord of the Rings several times, and I have read every Shakespeare play. Kristin Lavransdatter is another favorite book.

I am so glad to be here at Founders!
