Founders AlumniFounders Alumni Return to Share College Experiences

The Founders Academy Public Charter School was delighted to welcome back alumni from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 graduating classes on January 4, 2024, to speak with Founders juniors and seniors about their experiences transitioning from high school to post-secondary experiences.

Moderator and Founders high school counselor, Michelle Smith, posed questions, submitted by current Founders students, to the six alums that ranged from the best part about college to the hardest part of the transition to living with a roommate and juggling academics and new freedoms. The alumni were happy to share their challenges and highlights of their experiences.

“Allowing our students to hear about real experiences from students who have gone before them is such an important tool,” said Smith. ”It was great to welcome back some of our young alumni to share their stories and advice. Our juniors and seniors really enjoyed the session, and said that it helps to make the next two years seem even more real and important.”

The Founders Academy, a history-based public charter school, has a rigorous curriculum exemplified by its requirement that students earn 26 credits to graduate. These alumni are proof of the success of the Founders Academy’s mission of developing the leaders of the future.

Dean of School, Cassie Hayes, shared, “I am very proud of all of our graduates and how they represent themselves in the community after they graduate from The Founders Academy. It was great to see these students and how they have used the character, leadership, and academic skills they developed here at Founders in their life after high school.”

The Founders Academy is a public charter school for students in grades 5 through 12 that is free and open to all New Hampshire students. The Academy develops leaders who understand and apply the lessons of the past, demonstrate exceptional character and lead by example. The Academy recognizes the importance of balance in the development of the whole person, and respects each student's journey.

Principled leadership is fostered by means of a curriculum of classical studies that includes analyzing the lives of great men and women of history, mining the rich classical ideals of the Western tradition, and tracing the evolution of the precious and costly idea of liberty.
